Traditional advertising diverts the recipient's attention to the ad —it does not intend to make people know the product but think through the advertisement. There are two types of traditional advertising —the one that exaggerates the product's features and the one that moves through the argument. The former is usually seen in cleaning products; they are ads that show the product making extraordinary things, cleaning impossible things. These ads have a certain relationship with the product they sell but they «do not make it public» but cover it with extraordinary powers. The idea is not to make the public believe the product can do that but to make an impact on them. The latter tells a story that deals with the target group's values. This type tries to move the user, but the product does not appear or it appears as something secondary. The goal of this type of advertising is to transport the emotion of the story to the product that it is shown at the end.
Nonetheless, the opposite occurs with the Internet. Internet ads are very discrete and they do not move anybody. Usually, it is has to do with links from one page to the other; i.e., your site is advertised on other pages with the same topic. How do you move the clients and make them buy the products? Links will take the user from a page in which you have an ad directly to your site and, when entering the page, the user has to feel encouraged to surf it and, afterwards, to buy your products. The design of your site will move the consumers. That is the reason why we say it is the other way around —in traditional advertising, it is the ad and not the one advertised what moves consumers, whereas on the Internet is the opposite. Thus, we notice how important is to have an advertisingly attractive website. It is responsible for sales.
Promotion is the addition of something extra to the product to make it more attractive. Using your company's site as a promotion medium is an excellent strategy —not only you will be able to perfectly promote the products but also you will attract a great number of visitors to your Web page. Let's see how we can promote on the Internet. Next we will give three examples of promotion through your site. Of course, these are only three of the various choices there are.
Putting a label on the products you want to promote. On the label, there must be your Web page address, the explanation of the promotion and a code for each product. The explanation of the promotion consists of the fact that the consumer will have to enter the website, go to the corresponding section and enter the code on the label. Having done this, the user will be taken to a hidden section in which he will find tickets to the movies, theater, etc. He will be able to print the tickets and use them.
Putting a section on you page where you display the offers. The offers should not be advertised in any other way. By doing this, you achieve two things. First, you will attract users and you will keep them informed about the offers and any other thing you want. By surfing the site, users are willing to stop at something that interests them besides what they are looking for. Second, you manage people to believe they are the only ones who know about these offers. They will want to take advantage of their luck and their ability to find good prices and they will go to buy the offered products.
Putting discount coupons on your website. These coupons must be printed and used in the corresponding shops for the promoted products. This is a very attractive promotion from the advertising point of view, since it attracts people who are not regular clients, and making them go to the website is worth it, since they will know the company. In order to get a greater benefit, you may demand people to fill in a list to receive monthly news by e-mail in order to print the coupons. As most of them will accept this, this will be really beneficial for your company. You will attract new potential clients; you will have e-mail addresses to send monthly, fortnightly or weekly information; and above all, you will be able to promote the products you desire. Don't you think it is a great option?
All these options need to be carried out by a designer. That is to say, if you decide to place something on your site, you will have to contact someone that has designed a site before or with another designer so that they can add what you need. These modifications may not have an extra price so the work can be arranged to be paid per work hour or you can fix a price.
Any marketing campaign tries to reinforce their sale venues or open new ones. That is to say that opening your company to the Internet —the best possible sale venue— is a superlative achievement. The sale market on the Internet is incredibly wide and it is not advisable to be out of it. In order to be part of it, you will need an e-commerce site. E-commerce sites are those which give you the possibility of selling from them without the need of any human being. (For further information please go to the corresponding section.) This opening will result in the increase of your sales and a greater geographical opening —you will be able to sell to anyone, anytime, anywhere. And though e-commerce sites are more expensive, it is totally worth it as regards cost-benefit.
